Indio to get new police headquarters

Indio has announced plans to build a police headquarters, the next phase in the desert city’s Public Safety Campus.

The $45 million project at 46800 Jackson St. will be the department’s “primary hub” for the department’s officers, sergeants, community service officers, support staff, and command staff, according to a statement on the city’s website.

Ground is expected to be broken this summer, with construction expected to be completed in the spring of 2028.

“This new police headquarters is a critical step in ensuring our city remains safe, resilient, and well-prepared to serve our residents for generations to come,” Mayor Elaine Holmes said in the statement.

The Public Safety Campus is being developed at the northeast corner of Jackson Street and Dr. Carreon Blvd. Its completed first phases includes a 13,500-square-foot fire station, a 7,000-square-foot dispatch center, and a two-story public safety services building that covers 22,000 square feet, according to Tilden-Coil Constructors Inc.

The size of the police department has not been determined.
