San Bernardino County approves budget

The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors has approved a $10.9 billion budget for the fiscal year 2026-’27.

That represents a decrease of $26.1 million – 0.24 percent – from the current fiscal year budget, but enough to pay for 27,592 positions countywide, a net increase of 94 positions year-over-year, according to a statement.

Board members unanimously approved the budget June 9.

“This budget includes the county’s core services, while also making targeted investments in the priorities the board has discussed throughout the budget process,” said Assistant Chief Financial Officer Diana Atkeson in the statement.

“It is designed not only to fund current operations, but also to ensure the county remains well-positioned to navigate a slower-growth, and potentially a more uncertain fiscal environment, in the years ahead.”

Arrowhead Regional Medical Center and the human services group will receive about $4.3 billion, or 40 percent of the budget. Law and Justice will receive 15 percent, and roughly $250 million will be spent on one-time expenditures, including two meant to help homeless people: $2 million for the West End Regional Navigation Center, and $5 million for the New Beginnings Campus at Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center, according to the statement.
