Workers at an Amazon warehouse-distribution facility in Riverside staged a one-day walkout Sept. 2, protesting what they called Amazon’s “retaliation” against their seeking better pay and safer working conditions.
About 100 employees at the operation near March Air Reserve Base – Amazon’s largest logistics facility in the United States – “has ignored federal labor law that requires the company to recognize the Teamsters and bargain with workers at the facility,” according to a statement released by the local.
“Amazon thinks it can trample workers’ rights with no consequences, but Amazon Teamsters at are proving them wrong,” said Randy Korgan, spokesman for Local 1932, in the statement, “Amazon has ignored the law for long enough. If this multi-trillion-dollar company won’t listen to workers on the job, then we will make it listen to us on the streets.”
Amazon did not respond to an email asking for comment.
The workers stayed off the job for 24 hours before returning to work Sept. 3. All workers at the Riverside facility joined Local 1932 in December, according to the statement.
