Inland trade school may be in its last days

A trade school in San Bernardino is near closing.

Students and administration at Career Colleges of America were told Monday that school officials were looking for another college to take over the school’s academic schedule, according to a report originally published in The Press-Enterprise.

Career Colleges of America has three campuses and has been operating in Southern Californian for more than 20 years. All three campuses combined have about 850 students, and all three are close to being shuttered, according to the report.

Career Colleges offers instruction in health care, but has been put on “cash management” status by the U.S. Department of Education, which means the school is in financial distress, according to the report.

Officials with the California Bureau of Private Postsecondary Education have acknowledged that the school is in danger of being shut down. They were scheduled to meet with students today to discuss how to recover tuition and discharge federal loans.

There was some speculation that InterCoast Colleges might step in save Career Colleges, but InterCoast issued a statement Tuesday that said it could not help.

Faculty members have not been paid since November but have continued to teach classes anyway, according to the report.
