San Bernardino will host an open house during which community members may give their opinions on the future of Carousel Mall and the city’s downtown.

The event is scheduled for 11:30 a.m to 2 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday at San Bernardino City Hall, 300 N. D St., according to a city statement.

Los Angeles-based AECOM, an engineering design firm, and The Fransen Company, a consulting firm based in Newport Beach, will display renderings of their proposal for downtown San Bernardino: mixed-used residential and retail, with the possibility of adding office and educational components in a second phase.

San Bernardino staff members will be on hand to answer questions and record all comments. All of that information will be part of a comprehensive master plan for revitalizing downtown and the mall, both of which have fallen into disrepair in recent years.

“We are at the outset of a revitalization of downtown San Bernardino,” City Manager Mark Scott said in the statement. “The possibilities are great, and the public’s input is vital in establishing a center that will boost economic development throughout the city and region.”
