Job training center opens in Perris

The Riverside Community College District has opened a facility in Perris that will train people for vocational and trade-related jobs.

The two-story Inland Empire Technical Trade Center is at the northeast corner of corner of First and D street, according to a statement on the city’s website.

The 13,700-square-foot downtown structure will be equipped with classrooms, meeting spaces, and job placement resources that will be used to prepare people for work in and around the Inland Empire.

It will also support certification and degree-related training that is available at community colleges, universities and nonprofits.

“This is truly a landmark moment for our city and for the region,” said City Manager Clara Miramontes in the statement. “This center is the gateway for future initiatives to develop a network of these centers that will strengthen our work force and provide residents with alternative career paths that lead to higher wage jobs.”

The project was funded in part by a $5.5 million grant administered by the U.S. Economic Development Administration, according to the statement.
