John Sullivan, an associate faculty member at Riverside City College, has been recognized for excellence in teaching by the Academic Senate of California Community Colleges.
Sullivan, who has taught English at the college since 1997, was recently presented the 2014 Hayward Award, according to a report originally published in The Press-Enterprise.
The Academic Senate gives that award in each of its four regions statewide.
Sullivan, who is a member of the state Community College Association Board of Directors, is the first part-time instructor to win the award while working in area D, according to the report.
Besides Riverside County, Area D includes community college districts in Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino and San Diego counties, It has more colleges in it than any of the other three districts, according to the report.
