Kelley named to state homeless panel

Veronica Kelley, director of San Bernardino County’s Department of Behavioral Health, has been named to the state No Place Like Home Program advisory committee, which advises Gov. Gavin Newsom on statewide homeless issues.

Kelley, who was appointed by Newsom, is the only committee member from a behavioral health department, according to a statement.

No Place Like Home was signed into law in 2016. It has up to $2 billion in bond revenue to build permanent housing for people who need mental health services and are homeless, chronically homeless or might become chronically homeless.

Permanent supportive housing combines affordable rental housing with services that help homeless people, people who have serious long-term disabilities, or both.

Kelley has been director of behavioral health since 2016, according to the statement.
