Lewis steps down as Fontana city clerk

Toni Lewis has retired as Fontana’s city clerk.

Lewis, who served four consecutive four-year terms, stepped down Feb. 2, according to a statement on the city’s website.

“As a lifetime resident of Fontana, it has been an honor and privilege to have served as your elected city clerk for the last fifteen years,” Lewis said in the statement. “The office is the epitome of democracy in action, it is the responsibility of the city clerk to remain unbiased and uphold the integrity of that office.”

Lewis was elected in November 2006 and reelected in 2010, 2014 and 2016.

“I have known Toni for a long time,” Mayor Acquanetta Warren said in the statement. “Her commitment to this community, service and kindness is profound. She will be greatly missed.”
