State Bros Markets will hold a “Celebration of Life” on behalf of Jack H. Brown, the man who led the company for 35 years.
The ceremony, which will be open the public, is scheduled to be begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at Citizens Bank Arena in Ontario, according to a statement released Monday.
The statement offered no details regarding the ceremony.
A San Bernardino native and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, Brown joined Stater Bros. in 1981. During his time with the company he held the title of chairman of the board, president, chief executive officer and, most recently, executive chairman.
Brown spent more than 65 years in the supermarket industry, having started his career as a box boy. He died Nov. 13 at the age of 78.
A cause of death has not been released.
San Bernardino-based Stater Bros. is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year. It’s the largest private employer in the Inland Empire and the largest privately owned supermarket chain in Southern California, with 169 stores in seven counties and nearly 18,000 employees, according to the statement.
