Morales named to climate fellowship

Fortino Morales III, Riverside’s sustainability manager, has been named a member of the Center for Community Investment’s 2026–2027 cohort of the California Climate Leaders Fellowship.

That program supports individuals in California “who are advancing community-centered climate resilience through equity, community power, and community investment,” according to a statement on the city’s website.

Morales, who has held his current position since 2024, is responsible for keeping the city up to date environmentally in several areas, including clean energy, water quality, waste reduction, air quality and climate resiliency.

Before working in Riverside, Morales was sustainably officer at UC Riverside. While there he was founding director of R’Garden, a seven-acre campus garden and learning space for students and the nearby community, according to the statement.
