Morales names to Native American advisory post

Tomás D. Morales, Cal State San Bernardino president, has been appointed the California State University Presidential Advisor for Native American Initiatives.

Morales will report to Mildred Garcia, chancellor of the Cal State University system, and the system’s board of trustees, according to a statement on Cal State San Bernardino’s website.

“It’s an honor and a great responsibility, to serve as the Presidential Advisor for Native American Initiatives,” Morales said in the statement. “As the nation’s largest public university, we need to do the best we can in advancing tribal relations, enhancing the education of Native American students.”

One of Morales’ tasks will be finishing the return to California’s tribes the remains of Native Americans and artifacts that are now held by Cal State University campuses, according to the statement.
