Palm Springs will soon have its sixth medical marijuana dispensary.
Joy of Life Wellness Center is expected to open in about two weeks, although an exact opening date has not been determined, said Amy Blaisdell, city spokeswoman.
The business will be located at 142 W. Oasis St, a site that meets all of the location and separation requirements spelled out in the city’s medical marijuana ordinance, City Attorney Douglas Holland said in a statement.
City staff are committed to helping Joy of Life get started as soon as possible, Holland said.
Palm Springs officials assume the store will attract business from throughout the Coachella Valley and the rest of Riverside County.
Officials with several other medical marijuana collectives made pitches to council at its Dec. 16 meeting before the council settled on Joy of Life, Blaisdell said.
The California Department of Public Health administers the state’s medical marijuana program and distributes its medical marijuana identification cards.
Qualifying conditions include cancer, anorexia, AIDS, glaucoma and arthritis. Anyone with a chronic medical symptom that limits them from conducting one or more life activities as defined by the Americans With Disabilities Act may also be eligible, according to leafly.com a website that details each state’s policy on medical marijuana.
