Moreno Valley embraces AI

Moreno Valley has begun using a translation service powered by artificial intelligence.

Wordly provides audio-to-text translation at public meetings and other events, according to a statement on the city’s website.

“By leveraging AI translation, Moreno Valley is modernizing its public services and reinforcing its dedication to accessibility and community engagement,” the statement reads. “The addition of Wordly underscores the City’s commitment to fostering inclusive governance.”

The technology, described as user-friendly by the city, produces immediate real-time translations in different languages, eliminating the need for human translators. Anyone using Worldly can use smartphones, tablets, or computers.

“Moreno Valley embraces innovation and technology,” said Mayor Ulises Cabrera in the statement. “Wordly breaks down language barriers and allows our messaging to more effectively reach our audiences. This is another step forward in making our local government more inclusive for all.”

Cost of the technology was not disclosed.
