Moreno Valley is looking to get word out about Measure L, the proposed hotel tax that will appear on the city’s Nov. 8 ballot.
If approved, Measure L would increase the city’s transient occupancy tax from 8 percent to 13 percent. That would raise money for more police and fire protection, faster 911 emergency response, street repair and other public services, according to a recent posting on the city’s website.
The tax, which would not be levied agains Moreno Valley residents, would add approximately $650,000 annually to the city’s general fund, according to a staff report.
Moreno Valley currently has 11 hotels/motels with a total of 931 rooms, and its transient occupancy tax is the lowest in Riverside County along with Temecula and San Jacinto, the report noted.
