A Pulitzer Prize-winning author has joined the faculty at UC Riverside.
Jane Smiley, whose novel “A Thousand Acres” won the prestigious award in 1992, will work in the school’s creative writing department, according to a statement released Wednesday.
She will be a distinguished professor of creative writing and will start July 1, according to the statement.
Smiley was born in Los Angeles and raised near St. Louis. She now lives in Northern California. Smiley has written 24 novels and won the O. Henry Award in 1985 for her short story “Lily.”
Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, Harpers and The Guardian, among other publications, according to the statement.
