New SB County fire station breaks ground

San Bernardino County has begun construction on a new fire station.

Station 227 will be located at 10 W. 38th St. in San Bernardino, one of two new or rebuilt county fire stations within the city, according to a statement on the county’s website.

It will replace the previous Station 227, which was at 282 W. 40th St. for more than 60 years.  The new facility will include a paramedic fire engine, a second engine designed to fight brushfires., and a “future squad” that will help with 911 calls.

“Improving response times means lives saved, property protected and a community that knows help is on the way,” said Gary Jager, assistant fire chief, in the statement “The new Station 227 will serve as a focal point for the Arrowhead neighborhood, (and be) a symbol of what’s possible when county, city and community partners invest together.”

A groundbreaking was held June 17. Cost of the project, and a construction schedule, were not released.
