Obtaining Financing and a CEO’s Wisdom Go Hand in Hand!

By Eugene E. Valdez AKA The Loan Doctor™

Bankers like to loan money to CEOs who have wisdom and intelligence. These two qualities are hallmarks of good executives and reduces a banker’s perceived risk in extending a loan to a business. In my opinion one of the ways CEO’s can increase their wisdom and intelligence is to read a lot.

I found a book in my personal library called “The Essential Wisdom of the World’s Greatest Thinkers” which was edited and compiled by Carol Kelly-Gang. There are many powerful quotes in this book which I would like to share with you as this week’s article. Maybe some will resonate with you.

Here you go:

“All men by nature desire knowledge” – Aristotle

“The key to good decision making is not knowledge. It is understanding. We are swimming in the former. We are desperately lacking in the latter”-Malcom Gladwell

“Knowledge is of no value unless you put it into practice” – Anton Chekhov

“There is only one good, namely, knowledge and only one evil, namely ignorance” –Socrates

“Knowledge itself is power”- Francis Bacon

“Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence”- Abigail Adams

“By three methods we may learn wisdom: first, by reflection, which is noblest; second by imitation, which is the easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest”-Confucius

“The important thing is to not stop questioning”- Albert Einstein

“It is the province of knowledge to speak, and it is the privilege of wisdom to listen”- Oliver Wendell Holmes

As every divided kingdom falls, so every mind divided between many studies confounds and saps itself”- Leonardo da Vinci”

“We cannot learn without pain”- Aristotle

“Anybody who has survived his childhood has enough information about life to last him the rest of his days”- Flannery O’Connor

“I am part of everything that I have read”- Theodore Roosevelt

“The world exists for the education of each man”- Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Education is the ability to listen to almost anything without losing your temper or your self-confidence”- Robert Frost

“Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all”- Aristotle

“Education is not preparation for life, education is life itself”-John Dewey

“One’s work may be finished someday, but one’s education never”- Alexandre Dumas

“We are all teachers and students ourselves”- A Bartlett Giamatti

“Without leaps of imagination or dreaming, we lose the excitement of possibilities. Dreaming is a form of planning”- Gloria Steinem

“Ideas are like rabbits. You get a couple and learn how to handle them, a pretty soon you have a dozen” John Steinbeck

“He who has imagination without learning has wings but no feet”- Joseph Joubert

“Daring ideas are like chess pieces moving forward in a game; they may be beaten but they may start a winning game”- Goethe

“Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young”- Henry Ford

And my all-time favorite is… “Talent hits a target no one else can hit. Genius hits a target no one else can see” Arthur Schopenhauer
