OIA adds app-based rides

Ontario International Airport has agreed to add ride services that are summoned by smart phone apps to its ground transportation network.

The airport authority on Wednesday agreed to make the addition, according to a statement posted on the airport’s website.

Two app-based providers – Uber and Lyft Inc. – were expected to begin servicing Ontario International passengers almost immediately.

Drivers will wait in designated areas, and passengers will be picked up and dropped off at specific spots near passenger terminals and the USO lounge. Each vehicle will be required to display a company logo, or other distinguishing symbol, that can be viewed within 50 feet, according to the statement.
