Phong Au-Hong, a junior in UC Riverside’s entomology department, has been awarded one of 20 spots in the Public Policy and International Affairs Junior Summer Institute at Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz College.
Every year, the PPIA selects high-performing undergraduates from throughout the United States to participate in its seven-week summer institute program before their senior years, according to a statement on UC Riverside’s website.
The goal of the PPIA is to help students obtain a master’s degree or a joint degree, usually in public policy, international affairs or a related field.
Au-Hong is also a 2016-’17 Chancellor’s Research Fellow. He is working on a public health research project with the San Bernardino Clinic, according to the statement.
