On The Move

Emilio Ramirez, Riverside’s deputy director of community and economic development, has been named to the state’s new Homeless Coordinating and Financing Council.

“Helping people overcome the challenge of homelessness has become a key part of my professional life, and I am very excited about being able to provide some expertise on the state level,” Ramirez said in a statement.

“Riverside has a lot to offer to this statewide conversation.”

The 15-member council will identify ways to prevent people from becoming homeless or, if they are homeless, help them get back into regular housing.

It will also oversee implementation of Housing First, a set of guidelines and regulations that require housing and support services to be implemented early in rehabilitation, before other issues – drug and alcohol abuse, for example – are resolved,  according to the statement.
