On The Move

Steve Adams, a former Riverside councilman, is returning to his old job.

The City Council on Monday tapped Adams to fill the vacant Ward 7 seat, said Phil Pitchford, city spokesman.

A former Riverside police officer, Adams was one of 10 applicants for the seat. It became vacant last month when former council member John Burnard stepped down after being arrested in Arizona for alleged domestic violence.

Burnard has pleaded not guilty to those charges.

Adams, who was sworn in Monday and assumed office immediately, will serve until mid-2019, Pitchford said.

Adams, who has said he doesn’t plan to run for a full term when his current term expires, served for a dozen years on the council before stepping down in 2015. He ran unsuccessfully against U.S. Rep. Mark Takano, D-Riverside, in 2014.
