Ontario International Airport took a victory lap last week at its annual State of the Airport event.
More than 600 business and civic leaders gathered Nov. 6 at the Ontario Convention Center to celebrate the airport, which expects its 2024 passenger count to top seven million by the end of this year, according to a statement on the airport’s website.
“We have posted 43 consecutive months of year-over-year passenger growth, making us one of the very few airports in the world that can claim that,” Alan D. Wapner, president of the Ontario International Airport Authority’s board of commissioners, told the crowd. “We have established Ontario International as a leading economic driver for Southern California.”
So far this year, Southwest Airlines began nonstop service to and from Ontario International to Nashville. And, last week, Southwest announced it will begin service to Baltimore/Washington International Airport in June.
That will be Ontario International’s first service to the greater Washington D.C. market.
Also in 2024, U.S. Customs and Border Protection declared Ontario International a Landing Rights Airport, which will make it easier to attract more international flights and cargo, and the airport was ranked second among California airports for customer satisfaction by J.D. Power and Associates, according to the statement.
