Ontario International Airport has received a $4.1 million grant that it will use to expand its clean-energy operations.
The funding will cover 75 percent of the $5.5 million cost of installing electric ground support equipment for charging stations at Terminals 2 and 4, according to a statement on the airport’s website.
The Federal Aviation Administration grant is the largest of the three VALE (Voluntary Airport Low Emission) grants the airport has received in the last three years, according to the statement.
“This latest investment by the FAA is a vote of confidence in the work we are doing to build a more sustainable airport,” said Atif Elkadi, the Ontario International Airport Authority’s chief executive officer, in the statement. “Three VALE grants in three years represents meaningful progress.”
The VALE program reduces emissions, which allows commercial service airports to meet their federal air quality standards, according to the statement.
