ONT gets close to pre-pandemic passenger count

Ontario International Airport accommodated 475,502 travelers in November, nearly reaching its pre-pandemic numbers for the next-to-last month of the year.

The airport also surpassed four million passengers for the year, as passenger traffic rose 123 percent year-over-year and got within five percent of November 2019’s pre-pandemic count, according to data released last week by the Ontario International Airport Authority.

Domestic traffic rose 124 percent compared with last November, while international traffic nearly doubled.

Passenger volume totaled 4,029,441 for the first 11 months of the year, a 71.6 percent increase from the first 11 months of 2020. Domestic and international travelers increased by 73.6 percent and 21.5 percent during that time.

“Ontario International continued on its strong recovery path in November despite the persistence of the global coronavirus pandemic, and continues to lead among airports of its size and larger,” said Julia Gouw, airport authority commissioner, in a statement.  “Even in this challenging environment, Ontario International remains an attractive aviation gateway.”

Ontario International handled 792,856 tons of freight and mail between January and November, a four percent drop year-over-year but a 14.4 percent increase compared with the same period in 2019, the airport authority reported.
