Ontario International Airport had another record-breaking month in June.
Five hundred and fifty-nine thousand air travelers passed through the airport during the sixth month of the year, about 2,000 more than in May, according to a report released July 13.
In both instances, the airport set a record for most passengers accommodated in one month since it was returned to local ownership in November 2016.
The total passenger count was up 8.7 percent year-over-year. That included 37,000 International travelers, also a monthly record.
“We couldn’t be more pleased that demand for air travel through Ontario remains strong,” said Atif Elkadi, the Ontario International Airport Authority’s chief executive officer, in a statement. “[It’s] outpacing other California airports, driven by large increases in population and jobs across our region.”
Ontario International’s passenger count was nearly three million during the first half of 2023, 12.4 percent more than the first six months of 2022.
Air cargo, however, declined: down 14.3 percent in June and 10.4 percent for the first half of the year, according to the report.
