More than 618,000 air travelers passed through Ontario International Airport in May, the most in any month since the airport moved to local ownership in 2016.
The previous monthly record was set in October, when Ontario International accommodated 606,497 passengers, according to data released June 17 by the Ontario International Airport Authority.
“Ontario International Airport achieved record passenger volumes in May, and [it] continued to experience double-digit year-over-year growth,” said Atif Elkadi, the authority’s chief executive officer, in a statement. “We anticipate welcoming more than two million travelers over the summer travel season and are on track to surpass seven million passengers for the year.”
Southwest Airlines carried the most passengers last month (37.5 percent) followed by Frontier Airlines (16 percent) and American Airlines (15. 8 percent).
Ontario International handled 54,116 tons of cargo – mail and freight – last month, a 13.1 percent annual increase, the authority reported.
