ONT to host International conference

Ontario International Airport will co-host a three-day gathering this week of aviation industry leaders from around the world.

The 2022 SMART Airport & Regions Conference, one of aviation’s largest and most prestigious gatherings, is scheduled to begin July 18 at the Ontario Convention Center, according to a statement on the airport’s website.

Topics will include how airports can create economic opportunities in the aftermath of the pandemic and how they can act as incubators for urban development.

“Ontario and the Inland Empire are an ideal location for this global gathering,” said Alan D. Wapner, president of the Ontario International Airport Authority and Ontario’s Mayor Pro tem, in the statement.  “We have one of the fastest-growing airports in the world, in the heart of one of the most robust populations and economic centers in the U.S.”

The Greater Ontario Chamber of Commerce is co-hosting the conference. Speakers will include Wapner, authority commissioners Ron Loveridge and Curt Hagman, the airport’s Chief Executive Officer Atif Elkadi, Chief Capital Development Officer Michelle Brantley, Chief Commercial Officer Dan Cappell and Michael Krouse, president and chief executive officer of the convention and visitors bureau.
