ONT nearly back to pre-pandemic passenger levels

ONT tops 600,000 passengers

Ontario International Airport accommodated more than 600,000 passengers in October, the first time the airport has topped that number since it was returned to local ownership in November 2016.

The total passenger count of 606,497 consisted of 568,484 domestic and 38,013 international travelers, a 12 percent increase compared with October 2023, according to the Ontario International Airport Authority.

During the first 10 months of this year, more than 5.3 million passengers passed through Ontario International Airport: 4.9 million domestic and 334,000 international travelers. That was 11.6 percent higher than the same period in 2022.

“Our robust passenger volumes are no surprise given the population growth in our service area and the rising popularity of our gateway,” said Atif Elkadi, the airport authority’s chief executive officer, in a statement.

“Our airline partners and air travelers recognize the value of our airport.”

Shipments of freight and mail totaled 60,798 tons in October, a 1.3 percent decline year-over-year. Year-to-date, the airport handled 604,116 tons of cargo, 12 percent lower than the first 10 months of 2022, the airport authority reported.
