The Oak View Group, a sports and commercial real estate business, will manage the Palm Springs Convention Center and Bureau of Tourism.
The city council voted July 21 to put the Denver-based company in charge of both entities, each of which is a major player in the city’s economy, according to a statement on the Palm Springs website.
Oak View Group will oversee a proposed $125 million renovation of the convention center, which city officials hope will make Palm Springs as a preferred destination for business, tourism, and large conferences.
“[This] action is a generational investment in Palm Springs’ economic future,” said Mayor Ron deHarte in the statement. “With this partnership, we’re modernizing our convention center, boosting tourism, and bringing millions in new spending to our hotels, restaurants, and businesses.
“This is a game changer not just for Palm Springs, but for the entire Coachella Valley.”
Oak View Group currently manages Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert, and will it manage the downtown Plaza Theatre when it reopens to the public in December after completion of a multi- million-dollar renovation.
