Barely four months since it reopened, the Plaza Theatre in Palm Springs has held 120 events, surpassing its yearly programming goal.
The downtown theater hosted all of those shows – including the Palm Springs Jazz Festival, the Palm Springs Symphony, Modernism Week, and Coachella Valley Classical Voices – in 121 days, according to a statement on the city’s website.
The theater reopened Dec. 1 after a $34 million renovation that took several years to complete. Opened in 1936, the Plaza Theatre closed in 2014 because of structural defects.
“The Plaza Theatre continues to deliver guests from all over the world to downtown Palm Springs for events, enhancing the economic impact to the City of Palm Springs,” said J.R. Roberts, board president of the Plaza Theatre Foundation, in the statement.
The cultural landmark at 128 S. Palm Canyon Drive is expected to generate $40 million in revenue in 2026 and provide $4 million in tax revenue to the city, according to the statement.
