Perez named RC police chief

Capt. Ernie Perez has been named Rancho Cucamonga’s chief of police.

A 26-year veteran of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Perez began his new duties April 24, according to a statement on the city’s website.

Perez, who began his law enforcement career in 1995, has worked multiple assignments during his time with the sheriff’s department, including the West Valley Detention Center, Central Station, the Rancho Cucamonga Station and most recently the Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center.

During his 14 years as a deputy, Perez served as a patrol, training, correctional and narcotics unit deputy.

In 2015, he was promoted to lieutenant and assigned to the Rancho Cucamonga Station, where he was in charge of day-top-day operations. In 2019 he was promoted to captain.

Rancho Cucamonga contracts with the sheriff’s department for its law enforcement services.
