Redlands to redraw council districts

Redlands is asking for public input regarding the redrawing of the city’s five council districts.

The new districts, which will be based on data from the 2020 U.S. Census, are required by law every 10 years to ensure that each part of the city is represented equally.

Each district is to have a near-equal number of residents and have boundaries that comply with the Federal Voting Rights Act.

Redlands has already held two public hearings and a virtual workshop on the matter, in compliance with state law.

Residents are invited to submit district proposals. Draft maps will available after the census data is released, possibly by the end of this month, according to the city.
