Retail sales nationwide rose for the ninth consecutive month in June, the National Retail Federation reported.
Total retail sales, not counting automobiles and gasoline stations, were up 0.33 percent month-over-month and up 9.4 percent year-over-year during the sixth month of the year, the federation reported.
The month-over-month number was seasonally adjusted, the year-over-year number was not. That compared with increases of 0.42 percent month-over-month, and a 7.2 percent year-over year increase in May.
“The summer shopping season got off to a strong start in June,” said Matthew Shay, the federation’s president and chief executive officer, in a statement. “Consumers took advantage of summer sales events, and many got an early jump on back-to-school shopping. Year-over-year gains look particularly strong compared with a weak June 2025.”
Unadjusted total sales were up 6.81% year over year during the first half of the year, and core sales were up 6.84%.
