Riverside County approves wellness village

Riverside County has approved a $580 million project that will combine behavioral health treatment, medical care and social services.

The Riverside University Health System’s Wellness Village in Mead Valley will be developed on 19.4 acres at Harvill and Placentia avenues, an area with few medical facilities, according to a statement on the county’s website.

The village, which is expected to create hundreds of permanent jobs, will include two treatment center’s for children that Riverside County does not have: a crisis residential behavioral health center and a mental health urgent care.

“The RUHS Wellness Village represents a major shift in how we provide healthcare and will serve as a model for the state,” said First District Supervisor Kevin Jeffries in the statement. “By centralizing and enhancing access to healthcare, such as pediatric behavioral health services, we’re ensuring that families no longer need to travel out of county for essential care.”

Construction is expected to start in June and be completed by 2026. The project will be located in the first district.
