Riverside Fire Department earns re-accreditation

Riverside’s fire department has been re-accredited by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International.

That move leaves Riverside one of only five California fire departments with that accreditation, as well as the highest recognition – ISO Class 1 – given out by the state’s Insurance Services Office, according to a statement on the city’s website.

Only 13 percent of the U.S. population lives in a jurisdiction with those accreditations.

The Riverside Fire Department received a unanimous vote of approval from a panel of 12 commission members at a recent conference in Orlando, Fla. The panel looks at past, current, and future service levels and internal performance, then measures them against best practice standards.

The department is now accredited through 2028.  The commission is part of the Center for Public Safety Excellence, an accreditation agency in Reston,VA.
