Three members of the Riverside City Council will spend 13 months determining how the city will use artificial intelligence.
Steven Robillard, Philip Falcone and Steve Hemenway make up the City Council Working Group on Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy and Policy, according to statement on the city’s website.
The group will address multiple issues associated with AI, including developing safe methods for using that technology, how to apply it to economic and workforce development, how it relates to infrastructure and land use, and using AI to protect the city’s resident data and networks.
The group is expected to meet once a month. The date of the first meeting has not been announced.
“My goal is not to start from a predetermined position that AI is either good or bad,” Robillard said in the statement. “The goal is to bring in experts, ask difficult questions, learn from what other cities and institutions are doing, and develop a Riverside-specific strategy.”
