Riverside has informed two community service districts in Jurupa Valley that it wants an immediate multi-million dollar payment in connection with the expansion of wastewater treatment plant.
The letter, signed by Riverside Deputy City Attorney Anthony L. Beaumon, warns both districts that the city will take action to recover costs if it does not receive its share of the project’s $230 million price tag, according to a report in The Press- Enterprise.
The treatment facility is shared by the city and the two districts in Jurupa and Rubidoux. District officials maintain that their share of maintenance payments is already included in its contracts with Riverside, and that the city is upgrading to expensive technology that is not needed to treat water.
A lawsuit regarding the disputed payments was filed two years ago and is still in court, the report stated.
