A Watsonville construction company will widen State Route 74 from Lake Elsinore to the Riverside County-Orange County line.
Granite, which specializes in infrastructure projects, has been awarded the State Route 74 Ortega Highway Widening Project by the California Department of Transportation, according to a statement released Tuesday.
The $39 million worth of improvements will including building wider shoulders, rumble strips in each direction, and increased elevations on the curves for better safety.
“This section of State Route 74, which connects Interstate 15 and Interstate 5, is narrow and winding, so the addition of shoulders and rumble strips will improve safety for the traveling public,” said Brad Williams, Granite’s regional vice president, in the statement.
Construction is expected to start in February and conclude in June 2022.
Granite was founded in 1922. It calls itself one of the largest construction and construction materials companies in the United States, according to the statement.
