The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians will donate $1 million to help communities that were damaged or threatened by the recent wildfires.
The grants, part of Giving Tuesday, will support recovery, conservation, and wildfire prevention efforts while helping to restore and protect vital ecosystems, according to a statement released by the tribe.
“Giving Tuesday is a day that calls upon us to reflect on the power of collective generosity,” said Lynn Valbuena, chairwoman of the San Manuel tribe, in the statement. “We are honored to support our 2024 grant recipients in their efforts to rehabilitate lands affected by the recent wildfires, and invest in the long-term health of our communities and ecosystems.”
Grant recipients include the Wildlife Conservancy ($200,000), the Mojave Desert Land Trust ($200,000), the San Bernardino Mountains Land Trust ($100,000) the Center for Biological Diversity ($100,000) and the Victor Valley College Foundation ($100,000).
Giving Tuesday is a global effort intended to celebrate charity and volunteering. It takes place the third Tuesday after Thanksgiving.
