Two years after they were installed, motorists have taken to the Interstate 10 express lanes in San Bernardino County.
Use of those lanes totaled 14.6 million trips during fiscal year 2025-’26, a 15 percent year-over-year increase, according to the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority.
Also during the 2025-’26 fiscal year, which ended June 30, an estimated 500,776 vehicle‑hours were save by use of the express lanes, a five‑percent increase compared with the previous fiscal year.
“As more people choose the express lanes, the efficiency compared to the general‑purpose lanes has widened, giving commuters a dependable way to reach their destinations faster even during peak traffic hours,” a statement on the authority’s website reads.
FasTrak, a system that automatically pays tolls, accounted for 92 percent of all Express Lane trips last year, according to the statement,
The Express Lane’s first phase opened in August 2024.
