SoCalGas offers grants to low-income households

Southern California Gas is providing grants of up to $200 to help some households pay their natural gas bills.

Recipients of grants from the $1 million Gas Assistance Fund are determined by household income and household size, according to a statement released by the public utility.

“This winter, there is some good news for SoCalGas customers, with natural gas prices down from last year’s historic high prices,” said Gillian Wright, SoCalGas senior vice president and chief customer officer, in the statement. “However, with cooler winter temperatures, we know that people may use more gas to keep their homes and families warm.”

The Gas Assistance Fund is partnership between Southern California Gas and the United Way. A one-time grant of up to $100 per household is available, but if the applicant or a household member is 55 years old or older, the grant can go up to $200.
