Sprouts adds Riverside-based snack to its shelves

Sprouts Farmers Market has begun selling Sweet Aya Bites, the latest addition to a line of healthy snacks produced by a Riverside businessman.

Sweet Aya Bites launched at Sprouts last month, said William Laws-Parsons, who started Tiger Nuts in 2020.

Sweet Aya Bites come in four flavors: Sea-Salt, Smoky Barbecue, Spicy Sriracha, and Dark Chocolate Covered. They come from Tiger Nuts, which are healthy and environmentally friendly but not well-know in the United States.

“We are thrilled to add Sprouts to our growing list of retailers that are embracing Sweet Aya Bites,” Law-Parsons said of his creation, which is already carried by retailers Mother’s Market & Kitchen and Clark’s Nutrition.

Aya is another name for Tiger Nuts, which originate in North Africa and have been popular in Europe for centuries. Also known as the chufa nut, they have a slightly sweet taste and are adaptable to seasonings and dark chocolate.

They are also a good source of fiber, are rich in antioxidants and low in calories, according to Laws-Parsons.
