Federal funding will pay for major street upgrades in Riverside

State grant will help San Bernardino build park

San Bernardino has received a $5 million state grant that it will use to pay for a park.

City officials plan to develop an affordable housing project on a portion of Seccombe Lake Park, which covers 44 acres just east of downtown, according to a statement on San Bernardino’s website.

State laws require a new park to be developed to replace land used for the housing project.

The grant, which is part of the state’s 2023-’24 fiscal year budget, was arranged by Assemblyman James Ramos, D- San Bernardino. Ramos presented the mayor and city council with a ceremonial check during the council’s Oct. 18 meeting.

Earlier this year, the council pledged $10 million –  $9 million in city funds and $1 million donated by the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians – to an upgrade of Seccombe Lake Park.

That project is in planning, according to the statement.

  1. THEY are developing the parks which is a great thing however housing is badly needed for the Elderly an single mothers along with other homeless. People take to the parks because these hotels are temporary an we still need our people off of the Streets. Please also fix our roads in our communities besides taking the funds an putting in their pockets .
