Stater Bros. has been named one of the top regional grocers in the United States by trade journal Progressive Grocer.
The San Bernardino-based supermarket chain is one of only eight nationwide, and the only one based in California, that can legitimately be called a regional operation, according to the publication’s website.
“Amid all of the chatter about consolidation in the grocery industry, a few regional grocers are beloved by shoppers for doing all of the things that the larger competitors find difficult,” the publication stated. “That is, offer a rich and rewarding customer experience.”
Specifically, progressivegrocer.com cited the multicultural foods available at the Stater Bros. location that opened in Chino in September.
Stater Bros., which employs approximately 18,000 people, was pleased with the recognition.
“Progressive Grocer has highlighted our commitment to providing the best experience for our communities and our customers,” reads an unsigned statement on Stater Bros.’ website. “We are thrilled to be recognized by Progressive Grocer, a leading industry publication.”
