Survey says most Ontario residents like their city

A majority of Ontario residents believe their city is a good place to live.

Eighteen percent called the city an “excellent” place to live, while 58 percent declared it a “good place” to establish residence, according to a “Resident Satisfaction Survey” conducted by the city in May.

Twenty-one percent rated it “just fair,” and two percent called it a poor place to live. Sixty-three percent of those surveyed said they feel “very safe” or “somewhat safe” in their neighborhoods.

Most respondents said they were satisfied with how Ontario handles 911 calls, and they also approved of its libraries and public spaces. On the negative side, respondents said the city needs to do better dealing with homelessness and maintaining its roads, and that it does not do enough to upgrade its rundown houses and public buildings.

The survey was conducted between May 10 and May 23 in English and Spanish. Respondents were contacted by landline or mobile phone.

The results, posted on the city’s website, have a 95 percent degree of accuracy.
