Takano arranges funds for Perris Fire Department

Rep. Mark Takano, D-Riverside, recently presented an $850,000 check to Perris that the city will use to help it purchase a tiller ladder truck for its firefighters.

The federal grant will help the department improve its emergency response times and the safety of its firefighters, while strengthening its ability to protect residents and property, according to a statement on the city’s website.

“Public safety begins with making sure our first responders have the tools and resources they need to protect our communities,” Takano said in the statement. “I was proud to advocate for this funding, and grateful for the local leaders who continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of their residents.

A tiller ladder truck has an extended aerial ladder, and a steering system that allows it to move through tight streets, residential neighborhoods, commercial areas, and other areas that can be difficult for traditional ladder trucks to navigate, according to the statement.

Perris contracts with CAL Fire/Riverside County Fire Department. It does not have its own fire department.
