Three Coachella Valley supermarkets to be sold

Sixty-three grocery stores in California, including three in the Coachella Valley plan to be sold by Kroger, Inc.

The Cincinnati-based retailer will sell off nearly 600 Albertsons and Vons stores nationwide in order to get approval of its merger with Albertsons Cos., which was announced nearly two years ago, according to multiple reports.

Kroger and Albertsons agreed to sell a group of stores, along with one plant and several warehouse-distribution facilities, to C&S Wholesale Grocers after the Federal Trade Commission blocked the $25 billion merger.

Two of the Coachella Valley stores are in Palm Springs: Albertsons at 1751 N. Sunrise Way in Palm Springs and the Vons at 4733 E. Palm Canyon Dr. in Palm Springs and then Albertsons at 42095 Washington St. in Palm Desert.

Neither the plant nor any of the logistics facilities that are slated to be sold are in California.

  1. STOP the merger! We do not need a monopoly on our grocery stores. Do not want replacement of existing Vons and Albertson grocery stores.

  2. They should not approve the merger! Monopolies are not good!
