Toyota of SB offers sneak peak of new building

The new Toyota of San Bernardino briefly opened its doors today, about two months before the dealership at the San Bernardino Auto Center is scheduled to be ready for business.

Owner Cliff Cummings led a 30-minute tour of the facility – which is still under construction at 650 Auto Center Drive – for Toyota officials and other dignitaries.

The dealership is expected to open in mid-July.  It’s the first move in a major overhaul of the auto center next to Interstate 215, an overhaul that will include leveling the current Toyota dealership at 756 Showcase Drive and replacing it with Subaru, then getting another dealership – hopefully, one that sells luxury automobiles – for Subaru’s current site at 545 Auto Center Drive S.

The new Toyota dealership will be the centerpiece of the revamped auto center, which is already one of San Bernardino’s top sales tax generators.

“It’s definitely going to be the anchor of the entire operation,” Cummings said.

The new Toyota dealership will cost $20 million to build and cover 96,000 square feet. It will employ up to 200 people and generate about 30 percent more revenue a month than the current Toyota dealership, according to data provided by Toyota of San Bernardino.
