Travelers from ONT to Hawaii can bypass quarantine

Travel from Ontario International Airport to Hawaii is now permitted without having to observe the state’s 10-day quarantine, provided the person traveling has tested negative for COVID-19 with a “trusted testing partner.”

Ontario International is the first Southern Californian airport to earn that designation from the Hawaii Department of Health, according to a statement on the airport’s website.

That change in policy, which was announced by Gov. David Y. Ige, began Friday.

Travelers have two options: an expedited PCR test with next-day results or a rapid molecular NAAT test that provides results within an hour.

Either test must be administered within 72 hours of departure.

Ontario’s local testing partner is the Covid Clinic, which offers drive-through testing on Parking Lot 3 daily from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. The clinic offers drive-up tests and tests by appointment.

“Since the onset of the pandemic, Ontario International has worked hard to provide clean, safe facilities for our customers, as well as services that will offer peace of mind as they embark on their travels,” said Mark Thorpe, chief executive officer of the Ontario International Airport Authority, in the statement. “The Covid Clinic has been a great partner in offering quick, reliable COVID-19 tests.”
